WoW Housing Decor Items: A Complete Category Guide
A comprehensive guide to every category of WoW housing decor items, from furniture and lighting to rare drops and achievement rewards. Over 2,600 items organized by type.
The World of WoW Housing Decor
WoW's housing system launched with over 2,659 unique decor items — and that number grows with every patch, seasonal event, and content update. Whether you're furnishing your first small house or fine-tuning a large mansion build, understanding what's available and where to get it is essential.
This guide organizes every decor category, explains what you'll find in each, and points you to the best sources. For a more hands-on approach to getting items, check our crafting guide for profession-made decor or our beginner's guide for your first item sources.
Furniture
Furniture forms the backbone of any housing build. With over 600 furniture items at launch, there's something for every style.
Seating
- Chairs: Simple wooden chairs, ornate throne-style seats, bar stools, benches, cushions, and floor pillows
- Sofas and couches: Upholstered seating in various faction styles — Alliance tends toward refined fabrics, Horde toward leather and fur
- Outdoor seating: Stone benches, tree stumps, log seats, and wicker chairs
Seating items are among the cheapest to acquire — most basic chairs are available from housing vendors for under 50 gold.
Tables and Desks
- Dining tables: Small round tables to grand banquet tables seating 8+
- Work desks: Writing desks, crafting tables, alchemy stations (decorative)
- Side tables and nightstands: Essential for bedroom and living room builds
- Outdoor tables: Picnic tables, garden tables, barrel-top tables
Beds and Bedding
- Single beds: Simple cots, wooden frames, hammocks
- Double beds: Four-poster beds, canopy beds, platform beds
- Luxury beds: Faction-themed luxury sets, enchanted beds with subtle particle effects
- Bedding accessories: Pillows, blankets, and quilts (place separately for Advanced Mode layering)
Storage and Shelving
- Bookshelves: Tall, short, corner-mounted, wall-mounted

Lighting
Lighting items are critical for setting mood and atmosphere. WoW housing includes dynamic lighting — light-emitting items actually illuminate their surroundings.
Ceiling Lights
- Chandeliers: Crystal, iron, wooden, antler-style — sizes range from intimate to grand hall scale
- Hanging lanterns: Single and multi-chain, various materials
- Magical orbs: Floating light spheres in arcane, nature, shadow, and holy variants
Wall Lights
- Sconces: Torch sconces, candle sconces, magical sconces
- Mounted lanterns: Iron cage lanterns, paper lanterns, crystal lanterns
- Glowing runes: Wall-mounted magical runes that emit colored light
Floor and Table Lights
- Candles: Individual candles, candelabras, candle clusters, dripping wax candles
- Table lanterns: Oil lanterns, desk lamps, fairy-light jars
- Braziers: Standing braziers with fire, ember, or magical flame effects
Outdoor Lighting
- Pathway lights: Post lanterns, ground stakes, luminous stones
- String lights: Draped between posts or along eaves — available in warm white, multi-color, and seasonal variants
- Bonfires and campfires: Various sizes with smoke particle effects
Light Color and Intensity
Each light item has a default color temperature and intensity. In Advanced Mode, some lights can be tinted using nearby color-filter items. The community has discovered extensive tips and tricks for light layering — stacking multiple light sources creates rich, complex lighting that single items can't achieve.
Wall Decorations
Wall items fill vertical space and add personality to rooms.
Paintings and Art
- Landscape paintings: Depictions of Azeroth zones — Elwynn Forest, Durotar, Nagrand, Suramar, and more
- Portrait paintings: Faction leaders, historical figures, and generic portraits
- Abstract art: Arcane patterns, elemental motifs, and Titan-themed designs
- Player-made frames: Blank frames that display screenshots from your adventures (unlocked at Housing Level 8)
Banners and Tapestries
- Faction banners: Alliance, Horde, and neutral faction designs
- Class banners: One for each of WoW's classes — hang your main's banner proudly
- Tapestries: Large woven wall hangings with lore-themed imagery
- Pennants and flags: Smaller decorative flags for clustering
Shelving and Mounted Items
- Wall shelves: Display small items without floor-standing furniture
- Mounted weapons: Swords, axes, bows, and staves displayed on wall plaques
- Mounted trophies: Boss heads, antlers, rare creature trophies from dungeon and raid drops
- Clocks and mirrors: Functional clocks (show server time) and decorative mirrors
Rugs, Flooring, and Carpets
Floor coverings transform a room's feel more than almost any other item category.
- Small rugs: Bedside rugs, doorway mats, accent pieces
- Medium rugs: Room-center rugs, circular and rectangular
- Large carpets: Room-spanning carpets, ornate hall runners
- Outdoor ground cover: Cobblestone patches, grass mats, sand areas, wooden decking sections
Rugs stack well in Advanced Mode. Layering a small patterned rug on top of a large solid-color carpet creates depth. Many builders use scaled-up rugs as makeshift room dividers or elevation changes — see our Advanced Mode tutorial for techniques.
Nature and Outdoor Items
Outdoor decoration is a full system unto itself. With yard expansions and terrain editing (unlocked at higher Housing Levels), your outdoor space can rival the indoor build.
Plants and Trees
- Potted plants: Flowering plants, succulents, ferns, herbs in various pot styles
- Trees: Full-size trees (outdoor only), saplings (indoor or outdoor), topiary shapes
- Flowers: Garden flower beds, individual stems in vases, wildflower clusters
- Mushrooms: Decorative mushrooms in normal and oversized variants (great for Zangarmarsh-themed builds)
- Vines and ivy: Wall-climbing vines, hanging ivy, floral garlands
Water Features
- Fountains: Small garden fountains to large courtyard centerpieces
- Ponds: Decorative fish ponds, lily pad ponds, koi ponds
- Waterfalls: Wall-mounted cascading water features (2-3 budget points each)
- Wells: Stone wells, wooden wells, wishing wells
Terrain and Landscaping
- Rocks and boulders: Natural stone in various sizes and colors per biome
- Fences and walls: Wooden, stone, iron, and hedge fence sections
- Pathways: Stone, gravel, wooden, and brick path sections
- Garden structures: Trellises, arbors, pergolas, garden arches
For outdoor builds, your biome choice matters significantly. Different biomes provide different base terrain, lighting, and ambient effects. Read our biome comparison guide to choose wisely.
Crafted Items by Profession
Every major crafting profession contributes unique housing items. Crafted items tend to be higher quality and more stylistically distinct than vendor items.

- Blacksmithing: Metal furniture, iron chandeliers, weapon displays, decorative armor sets

Neutral Items
Most items are faction-neutral and available to all players. Faction-specific items are typically purchased from faction vendors in capital cities or earned through faction-specific achievements.
Achievement and Reward Items
Some of the rarest and most coveted decor items come from achievements, special events, and challenging content.
Raid and Dungeon Drops
- Boss-specific trophies from current and legacy raids
- Dungeon-themed furniture sets (unlock by completing dungeon achievements)
- Mythic-difficulty exclusive items with unique visual effects
Achievement Items
- Collector milestones: Earn decor by collecting mounts, pets, transmog, or achievements
- Housing-specific achievements: Each housing achievement tier unlocks a reward item
- Legacy content: Items themed around past expansions, earned by completing legacy achievement chains
Seasonal and Event Items

Organizing Your Collection
With over 2,600 items, managing your decor collection matters. The in-game interface provides several tools:
Collection Filters
- Filter by category: Furniture, lighting, wall, floor, outdoor, etc.
- Filter by source: Vendor, crafted, drop, achievement, event
- Filter by owned/unowned: Track what you have and what you still need
- Search by name: Type any keyword to find specific items
Favorites and Sets
- Mark favorites: Star items you use frequently for quick access during decorating
- Community sets: Player-created item sets shared through layout exports — import them to see which items you need
- Wishlist: Mark unowned items to track what to farm or buy next
Inventory vs. Placed
Items exist in two states: in your collection (available to place) and placed on your plot. You can own an item once and place it once — if you want duplicates, you need multiple copies. Some items are unique and limited to one per plot.
Building Your Collection Efficiently
Priority Vendors
Visit these vendors first — they sell large catalogs of affordable basic items:
- Housing vendor in your faction capital (largest selection)
- Biome-specific vendors in each neighborhood (items matching the biome theme)
- Holiday vendors during seasonal events (limited-time items)
Farming Routes
For drop-based items, the community has established efficient farming routes:
- Legacy raids for themed furniture sets — older raids are soloable and drop decor consistently
- World quests occasionally reward housing items
- Treasure chests in open-world zones have a chance to contain decor items
Auction House
Many crafted housing items are available on the auction house. Prices vary by server, but common crafted items tend to be affordable. Rare and high-demand items — particularly Engineering gadgets and Enchanting magical items — command premium prices.
What's Coming Next
Blizzard has confirmed that the decor item catalog will expand with every major content patch. Patch 1.1 added approximately 200 new items, and the community expects similar additions going forward. Future raid tiers will include themed housing drops, and new seasonal events may introduce entirely new item categories.
Start Your Collection Journey
The best part of WoW housing is that there's always something new to find. Whether you're a completionist chasing every item or a focused builder who needs specific pieces for a vision, the decor system has depth for years of engagement.
